. government officials say after admitting to an extramarital affair with his biographer paula broadwell. multiple sources have revealed the identity of a woman who received harassing e-mails from broadwell and whose complaint to the fbi led to the investigation which uncovered the affair. and there's a growing chorus of questions from lawmakers about exactly when the affair came to light, who in washington was told about it, and when they were told. nbc's kristen walker has the latest on the controversy. >> reporter: according to a senior federal official and close friend of david petraeus, 37-year-old jill kelly complained to fbi agents about being harassed by paula broadwell, david petraeus's biographer. a senior u.s. military official says jill kelly is involved in wounded warrior fundraising in tampa, is married, she and her husband are close petraeus family friends. officials say the downfall started when kelly complained to the fbi that she was receiving intimidating e-mails from broadwell. law enforcement officers tell nbc news that those e-mails tloed the discovery of others bet

and paula broadwell may have involved top secret documents. we've learned petraeus will now testify on capitol hill about the deaths in benghazi. tracie potts has the latest from washington. >> i have no evidence at this point from what i've seen that classified information was disclosed that in any way would have had a negative impact on our national security. >> reporter: but after the fbi searched the home of paula broadwell, the woman who had an affair with general david petraeus, law enforcement and national security officials now say she had substantial classified information unsecured on her computer. classified but not highly classified, nbc reports. prosecutors will decide if she'll be charged depending on how she got the information. the pentagon had suspended her security clearance. leon panetta suggested general john allen who said he will cooperate may be the last person involved. >> i am not aware of any others that could be involved in this issue at the present time. >> reporter: despite the probe, general petraeus who stepped down from the cia is scheduled to testify
was an extramarital affair between petraeus and his biographer, paula broadwell. and of course so many questions about where this goes from here. joining me now for the latest on this developing story, the "washington post's" bob woodward and our own chief foreign affairs correspondent andrea mitchell who broke the story as i mentioned on friday. so andrea, here we are on sunday morning, new details. we know there was someone close to petraeus who got threatening e-mails. a whistleblower. she goes to the fbi. and that's how they get to the affair. >> this other woman, and we know she's not in the government and that she's not a family member, complained to the fbi about what she felt were harass k and threatening e-mails. it was that investigation that led -- they were anonymous e-mails. that led to broadwell's e-mail account. and by examining broadwell's, paula broadwell the biographer's e-mail account that's they uncovered or stumbled as they put it into this -- >> there were actually explicit e-mails between broadwell and petraeus. >> or some indication in those e-mails of an ongoing relationship.
